Aegean Airlines plane late? Find out about your compensation and your rights
Since 2004, Europe has implemented European regulations for the rights of airline passengers. The objective is to regulate within the EU and assert the rights to compensation and assistance for any person booking a flight departing or arriving from the European Union, with compensation for delay ranging from 250 € to 600 €.
For specific responses to specific cases, the complete regulations are available on the Eur-Lex portal, bringing together all of the European regulations.
Which flights are affected by the delay allowances?
The conditions for a flight to be subject to European regulations are highlighted on the official page of the Europa.eu portal. In summary, the following situations allow you to be eligible for compensation:
– Your flight is inside the EU
– Your flight leaves from the EU
– Your flight arrives in the EU from a non-EU country, but operated by an airline established within the EU such as Aegean Airlines.
To this is added an additional condition, the delay must be greater than a specific duration depending on the distance traveled by the flight:
– Flight of less than 1,500 kilometers: 2 hours late
– Flight between 1,500 and 3,500 kilometers: 3 hours late
– Intra-Community flight of more than 1,500 km: 3 hours late
– Flight over 3500 kilometers: 4 hours late
What are the amounts of the delay compensation for your flight?
Note that a decision of the Court of Cassation has validated that intra-community flights of more than 3,500 km give entitlement to compensation of € 400 and not € 600 as might be expected. Flights between France and the French overseas departments and territories are therefore limited to a maximum compensation of € 400.
How to claim compensation for flight delay?
You have two options for recovering your delayed flight compensation. The first is to contact the Greek airline directly through their dedicated contact area.
Many companies have set up a form or number to assert your right related to EU261 compensation regulation. You will find some examples with the portals of Eaysyjet, Air France or Aegan Airlines. Note that all air carriers whether low-cost or high-end must offer this type of compensation.
Rely on the expertise of compensation firms
Some air operators, such as Aegean Airlines, are quick to point out the rules clearly, while others, such as Aegean Airlines, make little or no mention of compensation options. Once the form is completed, the airlines will respond to your request within one to several weeks. In the case of a simple delay, the response is likely to be positive.
However, it is not uncommon for the answer to be negative because the situation is a bit more complex. While you are fully within your rights, it is possible that the airline may put forward exceptional circumstances that are not, or simply refuse to compensate you.
In this case, specialist providers can intervene free of charge to defend your file, and use their expert to assert your rights. The service is generally at no cost to the user until compensation is obtained, on which the organization then takes a commission.
