Airlines reimburse customers who fail to fly
Airlines know that travel plans don’t always work as expected. Many times, flights are canceled or undergo a long delay, thus, several passengers think of giving up their reservation and recovering the agent paid for obtaining their tickets, and they are entitled to do so as soon as certain criteria are met :
– Flight canceled and postponed,
– Plane that remains grounded five hours after scheduled departure time.
No matter the circumstances for which the plane trip would be canceled: strike, bad climate, breakdown or technical problem affecting the aircraft, problems in the control tower,… it is not important whether the disruption of the trip is linked or not to the air carrier. Passengers whose flight is suspended may be reimbursed in full for the unused portion of their airline tickets, and within a maximum of seven days from the date of dispatch of their request.
It is however necessary to recall that it is compulsory to contact its operator as soon as possible to inform him of his request, which can be formulated and deposited directly in an office of the company, transmitted by mail or sent to his official email address .
For holders of flight tickets, regardless of their tariffs, they can demand the reimbursement of the total price of their reservation as soon as it is realized that their plane is not going to leave (take off).
Compensation provided for the benefit of the complainants:
A flight canceled or delayed by five hours is always synonymous with reimbursement, but you already know that such a case can give you access to compensation?
When traveling in the European Union, you are protected by a law which came into being in February 2004 following the increase in the number of complaints filed by passengers confronted with their flight disruption.
Thanks to this regulation, millions of passengers have won their cases. An additional sum (excluding the amount of their ticket).
Today, all flights that are less than five years old and that meet the conditions for eligibility for monetary compensation are compensable.
All travelers, regardless of their nationality, are entitled to the flat-rate compensation, the sum of which is calculated according to the distance traveled by the plane since takeoff, and until it lands: 250 euros for less than 1,500 km, 400 euros for journeys from + 1500km and -3500km, and six hundred euros for flights of longer distances.
Getting compensation: how does it work?
We suffer a loss (cancellation, delay or overbooking), we think logically to contact his airline to ask for compensation. This procedure is however simple, it is in most cases ineffective. Air carriers avoid providing reliable answers to their customers. They hide behind many excuses, and additionally overwhelm passengers by pushing them to face very long, complicated procedures, which are far from being accessible to travelers who do not know and do not master the law.
